How do I replace a Honda Civic starter?
I’ve noticed my starter making strange noises, like grinding or screeching sounds. My grandpa says I need to replace my starter motor. What’s the easiest way to replace a Honda starter?

You are correct. A grinding or screeching noise is one symptom of a starter motor not working correctly, so you should replace it.
To replace a Honda Civic starter, follow these instructions:
- Locate the car battery, and use a wrench to disconnect it. Disconnect the negative terminal before disconnecting the positive.
- Use a flathead screwdriver to remove the air intake tube from the throttle.
- Pull out the air intake tube and resonator to access the starter motor.
- Disconnect the battery connections on the starter. As you unplug the wires, note how to reassemble them later.
- Use a ratchet to loosen the exposed bolts.
- Then, with a 3/8-inch socket, remove the bolts on the starter. Take it out.
- Next, take your new starter and bolt it to the engine.
- Put everything back in reverse order. Remember when connecting the battery to start with the positive terminal first.
