How do I know if my car is considered totaled in Texas?

How much damage does it take to total a car? Last night there was a bad storm and the trees were swaying very hard. This morning I was leaving the house for work and I saw a tree had toppled on top of my car. Is my car considered totaled or can it be fixed?

“In Texas, a car is considered totaled when the cost of repairs together with the salvage value—the value of the car after damages—equals at least 100% of the actual cash value (ACV) of the vehicle. The ACV refers to the value of the car prior to damages.
Let’s say, for example, the ACV of the vehicle was $15,000, the cost of repairs was $3,000, and the salvage value was $5,000. The total amount of the repairs plus the salvage value is less than 100% of the pre-crash value. So the vehicle would not likely be considered totaled.
In your case, the tree falling was beyond your control. This type of damage is covered by
comprehensive insurance
. Assuming you’ve added comprehensive coverage to your standard car insurance policy, it should cover the cost of the damages to your car, minus your deductible.
