How do I get car insurance if I don't have a car yet?

I'm shopping around for a new car but I haven't purchased one yet. I know I'll need insurance to drive the car, and I'd like to get it before I buy the car. How do I get car insurance if I don't own a car yet?

“Congrats on the new vehicle, and good for you for planning ahead! I’m happy to report that if you’re in the process of buying a car, you can shop for
car insurance
just like you would if you were shopping for a new policy.
Once you have the VIN (vehicle identification number), you can start gathering quotes from providers. You can shop and sign up for car insurance before you have the vehicle. In fact, having insurance before you get the car is the best practice!
Keep in mind that if you finance the car, the lender will require both
collision coverage
and
comprehensive coverage
as part of the stipulations of the loan—so it’s important to plan and budget accordingly.
The best way to find good deals on car insurance is to use a tool like the
Jerry
app. Jerry gathers quotes from multiple top-of-the-line providers so that all you need to do is pick the policy that works best for you. Once you’ve picked one, we’ll even help with the paperwork. And the best part–Jerry does all of this for free.
Best of luck with the insurance and congrats again!”
