There are two options for repairing a split upper panel—you can replace it or fill the split with epoxy.
Most panels are detachable and are attached to the door by latches or hooks. You can find a replacement panel online for anywhere from $90 to $200. Just pop out the old panel and install the new one!
If you’d prefer to fix the issue, you’ll need sandpaper and epoxy. First, clean the split area and sand it down, which provides more surface for the epoxy to hold. Then, spread the epoxy adhesive so it fills the gap. Let it dry, then sand down any excess adhesive. If you’d like it to look uniform, your final step will be to spray-paint the panel.
