The MAP sensor, or manifold pressure sensor, calculates the air-to-fuel ratio of your car. When it’s dirty, the engine control unit (ECU) can’t create the proper mixture, which leads to poor fuel economy. If your friend is right, this may be the problem.
To clean a MAP sensor, here’s what you’ll need to do:
Find the MAP housing assembly
Spray it with parts cleaner
The MAP sensor is usually at the front of the engine, although you may want to consult your owner’s manual to be certain.
Once you locate the MAP sensor, remove the two or three screws holding it in place. Unplug the wiring harness, use parts cleaner, and slap the MAP sensor back into place. That’s all there is to it!
In most cases, you should simply make cleaning your MAP sensor a part of your basic car maintenance schedule
to avoid future issues. While insurance won’t cover a dirty MAP sensor, it will protect you in the event of an accident. But don’t pay more than necessary. Use the Jerry
