How did my car insurance company get the wrong VIN for my car?
I was reviewing my policy and realized that my insurance has had the wrong VIN listed for my vehicle. I've been with the same company for three years! How did this happen? Can I get a refund since my vehicle wasn't actually insured?

While it was most likely a mistake on your
car insurance
company’s part, you wouldn’t get a refund. If you did get into an accident, your insurance company would have realized the mistake. Since it wasn’t caught earlier, they’d likely cover the damage.Even when vehicle identification numbers, or VINs, are incorrect, they often pull back the same vehicle or model. Assuming the number was only off by a digit or so, this is probably what happened.
Mistyping VINs is a common error and is usually caught when the policy is bound. It could have been a mistake on either your end or the
insurance
company’s. As it’s impossible to know, you probably won’t get a refund for anything you’ve paid up until now.You should call your insurance company and correct the error. You can also inquire about a refund to see what they say.
