How can you get a hardship license in Louisiana?
I recently moved to Louisiana and just got my first DUI. I’m super bummed about it, and I’m not familiar with the driving laws here. Can I get a hardship license to get my driving privileges back?

You can get a hardship license in Louisiana by petitioning the district court in your local parish. The court will ultimately decide whether or not to order the Department of Public Safety to issue the license.
Drivers in Louisiana convicted of an infraction or moving violation that results in a license suspension can apply for a hardship license, which allows them to drive for basic life necessities or work.
You may need to present some or all of the following to obtain a hardship license:
- Ignition interlock device (IID) agreement and installation
- SR-22 filing(aka a high-risk insurance policy)
- Support Services recommendation letter
- Court order or judgment
- Relevant fees
