Make sure to have your policy number and desired end date on hand when you cancel.
If you’re writing a letter: include your name, address, date of birth, policy number, and desired cancellation date.
USAA doesn’t charge cancellation fees, so you shouldn’t be charged for stopping coverage before your term is up.
If you paid in full for your policy, you should also receive a prorated discount when canceling midterm.
Get a new policy lined up before you go: Unless you’re going to stop driving altogether, you’ll need a new insurance policy set up before you cancel. Make sure the new coverage starts exactly when your USAA coverage ends.
To find a new insurance policy, compare quotes from at least 3-5 providers to see where you’ll get the lowest rate. A comparison tool like Jerry
can do all the work for you.
