Best car insurance companies in Cincinnati

There is no one-size-fits-all model for car insurance—what works for one driver may not work for another.
Car insurance quotes
vary between providers and drivers due to age, driving record, and credit score. So no single company offers the most affordable rate for every driver.
Aside from price, there are other factors to consider when choosing an insurance provider, such as claims handling and customer service.
For Cincinnati drivers looking for the cheapest car insurance company in Rhode Island, you’re in the right place. Jerry conducted the largest insurance survey in the nation—and the results were surprising. Big-name carriers like GEICO and Progressive received good feedback for customer service, but only Liberty Mutual and Nationwide got 5/5 rankings overall.
If you’re wondering which carrier might be your best pick, check out the table below to see how Cincinnati drivers ranked different insurance companies on a scale of 0 to 5.

Best cheap car insurance quotes in Cincinnati

Drivers in Cincinnati must carry liability insurance that meets the state-mandated requirements before getting on the road. But while minimum coverage might be all that’s required, it’s often not enough.
Consider purchasing a full coverage policy. If you’re involved in an accident, whether at fault or not, collision and comprehensive coverage offer greater financial protection for you and your car.

Cheap minimum liability insurance quotes in Cincinnati

If you’re behind the wheel in Cincinnati, Rhode Island, you’ll need bodily injury and property damage liability that meets the state coverage limits. In Rhode Island, it follows the 25/50/25 rule.
Here’s a breakdown of Rhode Island’s
liability insurance
minimums:
In most cases, drivers in Rhode Island must also have
uninsured motorist coverage
, but you can choose to decline the purchase if you have a policy with only the minimum limits of bodily injury and property damage liability as required by law.
With this basic liability insurance coverage, you’ll be covered up to your policy limits if you’re at fault in an accident that causes injury or property damage while driving.
Finding affordable car insurance can be tricky—but Jerry is here to help.

Do you need more than minimum coverage in Cincinnati?

The minimum insurance requirements in Rhode Island are higher than in many other states, but most drivers purchase minimum insurance that exceeds the 25/50/25 liability coverage.
If you’re involved in a car crash, and you or the other party sustain serious injuries or damage, the expenses can quickly add up to more than your policy limits. And if you’re found at fault, you’ll need to cover the rest of the damage costs yourself. For this reason, insurance experts generally recommend choosing higher liability limits, such as 50/100/50 or 100/300/100.
On top of that, liability coverage only covers others’ injuries and damages—not your own. Without additional coverage, you could be on the hook for covering your own medical expenses or vehicle damage.
The bottom line: For more financial protection, consider 50/100/50 or 100/300/100 liability coverage—even if you choose not to have full coverage on your car.

Cheap full coverage car insurance quotes in Cincinnati

If you don’t want to deal with the financial burden of a serious accident, investing in full-coverage
car insurance
is the way to go.
Full-coverage insurance includes liability coverage in addition to comprehensive and collision coverage.
  • Comprehensive coverage
pays for damage to your car from almost all other causes, including fire, theft, vandalism, hail, ice, flooding, and animal damage. It will also cover the cost of broken glass, such as windshield damage.
  • Collision coverage
pays for damage that results from a collision with another car or stationary object, such as a tree or sign.
If you lease or finance your car, your lender will require you to have collision and comprehensive coverage.
On top of a full-coverage policy, you can also purchase
uninsured motorist coverage
to protect you against injuries and property damage if you’re in a collision with a driver who doesn’t have insurance.

Car insurance quotes in Cincinnati by rating factors

Insurance companies in Cincinnati use many rating factors when
deciding your auto insurance premium
:
  • Your driving record and claims history: Drivers with a track record of accidents or violations generally face higher premiums than those with a clean record.
  • Your demographics: Your age, gender, and marital status can all influence the cost of your insurance rates.
  • Your location: City dwellers often encounter higher premiums compared to rural residents due to factors like increased crime rates and higher population density.
  • Your mileage: High annual mileage can result in higher insurance costs.
  • The make/model of your car: Luxury, sport, and high-performance vehicles typically cost more to insure since replacement parts are more expensive.
  • Your credit score: Good credit scores are generally associated with lower insurance rates, even for identical coverage.

How Do Different Factors Impact Your Car Insurance Costs in Cincinnati?

A
DUI violation
in Rhode Island can send you car insurance rates through the roof. Having a DUI charge on your driving record classifies you as a high-risk driver, and many insurers aren’t willing to offer high-risk car insurance.

Cheap car insurance quotes in Cincinnati by age

Teen drivers
aged 16 to 19 and those without an
unrestricted driver’s license
see some of the highest insurance rates of any age demographic due to limited driving experience. After age 25, safe drivers typically see their car insurance rates decrease—but they’ll start to increase again in their mid-70s.

Cheapest car insurance in Cincinnati for young drivers

Drivers under 19 pay the highest insurance rates out of any age group in Cincinnati. For teen drivers with a new car, purchasing a full coverage policy is recommended. Limited driving experience means a higher risk of getting into a car crash, so full coverage can offer greater financial protection and peace of mind—and staying on a parent's insurance policy can also keep rates low.

Seniors are also hit hard when it comes to insurance premiums.
Car insurance rates for seniors

Cheap car insurance quotes in Cincinnati for drivers with poor credit

While having
a low credit score
doesn't necessarily make you a bad driver, it can still result in higher insurance costs. That’s because insurance providers have observed a correlation between lower credit scores and a higher probability of filing claims.
As a result, individuals with “bad credit” may face increased premiums. According to our data, drivers with credit scores below 550 typically encounter car insurance rates approximately 20% higher compared to those with credit scores above 750.

  • Good driver discounts. California state law mandates 20% insurance discounts for drivers with one or fewer points on their license who have continuously held a license for three years with no at-fault accidents responsible for injury or death.
  • Telematics discounts. Many companies offer easy-to-win discounts to drivers who use telematics to track their driving habits. You might even get a discount just for signing up!
  • Good student discounts. Are you a full-time student in either high school or college? Do you have a B average or better? You probably qualify for a discount from your insurance company.

3. Increase your deductible for comprehensive and collision coverage

If you’ve got full coverage car insurance, increasing your deductible is an easy way to keep your monthly expenses low without sacrificing coverage.
