Driving a stick shift is always more fun! Though the Ford Focus SE
has been discontinued, the SE model, produced from 2000 to 2018 usually came standard with a six-speed manual transmission in a sedan style while the SE hatchback had the option for a six-speed automatic transmission. Not only does the Focus SE come with a six-speed manual transmission that helps to ensure a smooth ride, but you may have two engine options to choose from. For example, the 2018 Focus SE comes equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 160 horsepower. The other available powertrain includes a 1.0-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine that generates 123 horsepower.
While the Focus SE isn’t going to win any speed races (which you probably wouldn’t want for your son anyway!), the compact sedan gets slightly better mileage compared to its automatic counterpart. A SE with six-speed manual transmission gets up to 40 mpg on the highway, while the automatic transmission gets up to 38 mpg on the highway.
No matter which Ford Focus SE model year you decide to buy your son, just make sure you get the right coverage for your teen driver. Jerry
