Does the Canadian government have grants for buying electric cars?
My family and I are relocating to Canada from the US because of a fantastic new job offer that I've received. While sorting things out, I've realized that I've grown attached to my EV. We plan to sell our current car and buy a new one as soon as we move. Do you know if the Canadian government has any grants for buying electric vehicles?

Congratulations on your new job! Canada does have some grants and incentives for buyers of new electric cars.
In 2019, the government launched an incentive program to attract its public and businesses toward this new objective. Many makes and models are eligible for these grants. There are even some deals available to those buying used electric cars.
Canadian hybrid and electric car grants:
- Short-range hybrid grant $2,500
- Ontario’s used EV incentive $1,000
- Ontario’s trade-in used vehicle incentive of $1,000
Depending on the province you’re moving to, some of these grants can be used together. Either way, Canada has a lot of savings for you to take advantage of. If you want to save even more money, check-in with Jerry.
