Is renters insurance legally required to install a satellite dish?
"I can't have a satellite dish installed until I get approval from my apartment's management. The management says installation is only possible if I show proof of renters insurance, and I don't have insurance. Is it law that I need renters insurance to have a dish installed?

“This is actually a very common problem! Landlords, in general, do not like satellite dishes because they can damage the existing structure if not installed properly. They can also be a hazard and, honestly, pretty ugly to look at.
While there isn’t an official law requiring you to purchase renters insurance to install the satellite dish, it is the property owner’s right to require it. There may be an insurance stipulation in your signed lease agreement, and the lease is legally binding.
If the renters insurance requirement is not in your lease, the management can’t stop you from having the dish installed—but odds are the insurance limitation will show up in your lease renewal, or they could decide to non-renew your lease and force you to move.
Renters insurance is something that you should have for your own protection, and the good news is you may be able to find a policy for as little as $10 a month.
