In a weird coincidence, both my parents and best friend had to deal with burst pipes at their home recently. Now I'm paranoid that I could be next. Am I covered by home insurance against burst pipes?

“If your pipes burst due to freezing, then a standard home insurance policy would typically cover the resulting water damage. But your policy would not cover the cost to repair the pipes themselves.
It is always a good idea to make sure your home is weather-proof to prevent this type of loss. If you will be leaving the home for an extended period of time, you will want to drain the water from the pipes. Central heating is also important. Most insurance companies require you to have central heating in the home to make sure that all of the pipes are kept warm.
