Does a red light ticket affect insurance?

I recently got pulled over for running a red light. I know that I should’ve paid more attention, and because of that, I was issued a ticket. I’m worried now that my insurance rates will skyrocket because of it. Will a red light ticket affect my rates?

No matter how big or small, getting a ticket is no fun, and it can bring on its own set of headaches. In some cases, it can even cause a significant spike in your car insurance rates.
A red light ticket can affect your insurance at your insurance company’s discretion.
Your car insurance rates are based on many different factors—one of them being your driving record. Typically, if you have a clean driving record, your car insurance will overlook minor infractions, such as a one-time red light offense or minor speeding offense.
However, if it’s a more serious offense, be prepared to see a sudden spike in your insurance rates.
In terms of a red light offense, you shouldn’t notice much of a spike—if at all. Try not to make it a habit, though!
No matter what’s on your record—good or bad—it’s important to find the right car insurance policy that will cover you no matter what.
