Do I have to cancel my Commonwealth policy?

I just moved from Texas to Oklahoma and my insurance agent with Commonwealth said I needed to cancel my policy with them. Why? I have been with them for years. All I want to do is update my address.

Unfortunately for you, Commonwealth is only licensed to write insurance in Arizona and Texas at this time. Now that you have moved out of state, they can no longer continue the policy.
Before you cancel with Commonwealth, make sure to set up your new policy first! The easiest way to shop for a competitive rate in a new state is by getting several quotes from different insurance companies simultaneously.
This is where
Jerry
can help! Jerry is an insurance comparison app that pulls quotes from over 50 different insurance companies for you to compare on your phone. When you find a new provider that works for you, Jerry will even email you your new insurance ID cards.
Once your new policy is activated, you can cancel Commonwealth by calling them at 1 (877) 603-1310. Here is the information you will need with you when you call:
  • Your name and date of birth
  • Your Commonwealth policy number
  • Your new insurance provider name and effective date. Make sure the effective date of the new policy is the same as the cancelation date of the prior policy.
