Do I have to be added to my mom's car insurance policy?

I'm 18, living in Pittsburgh with my mom. I want to drive her car on occasion. Does this mean I need to be on her policy?

You don’t have to be on your mom’s policy, but I strongly recommend that you have your name added to her

Why? It all comes down to cost. Being added to your mom’s policy will typically be much cheaper—possibly by thousands of dollars, depending on your insurer and your personal profile.

If you get your own policy and your mom continues to drive the car, she would have to be listed on your policy.
