Can you turn right on red in Virginia?

I’m visiting some friends in Richmond, Virginia soon and I’m going to be driving. I hear Virginia has some confusing traffic laws and I really don’t want to get a ticket while I’m there. Can I even turn right on red?

It’s a good idea to research traffic laws in the states you’re visiting! You’ll especially want to avoid the
tickets that have the greatest effect on your car insurance
—thankfully, the law in Virginia is pretty standard: you can turn right on red after coming to a complete stop.
Make sure your right on red isn’t prohibited by a sign or red arrow, though! If you make a right on red when it is prohibited and you’re observed by an officer of the law, you could face a ticket. Moving violations can raise your
car insurance
rates considerably, which is why it’s best to avoid them altogether. If you have a bad record though, you might feel like you’re stuck paying high rates—until
