Oh no, what awful timing! Fortunately, you don’t have to sit this one out because Mesa Verde offers a 21-mile winding road through the park. The drive takes about an hour, but you can take more or less time than that.
Driving the main road will allow you to take advantage of the many pull-off stops so you can enjoy dozens of panoramic views and take pictures without rushing.
If you’d like to get a little more up close, you can also drive the Mesa Top Loop Road. This six-mile road allows you to access short and paved trails to twelve different archeological sites. There is also a Visitor and Research Center, which is easy to access by car and has its own share of beautiful views.
