Selling your car before purchasing a new one is a very good idea! As a vehicle seller in Missouri, there are some steps you’ll need to follow when
selling your car
.
When you sell a vehicle to a private party, you have to fill out the following paperwork and provide the forms to the buyer:
  • Certificate of Title with sale section filled in
  • Safety inspection certificate, less than two months old
  • Emissions inspection, less than two months old (only applicable if you live in St. Louis, Franklin, St. Charles, Or Jefferson counties)
Also, before the buyer takes the vehicle, make sure to remove your license plates, whether or not they are expired. Also, remember to write in the odometer reading and date of sale on the vehicle’s title.
Within 30 days of the sale date, you must report the sale to the
Missouri
Department of Motor Vehicles using a Notice of Sale Form (Form 5049), which is on the DMV’s website.
When you decide to buy a new vehicle, consider using the
Jerry
app to find the lowest car insurance rates from over 50 of the nation’s leading providers. It takes just a few minutes to get free quotes, and you may be shocked at how little you can pay for insurance!
Good luck with the sale.
