He can prepare by studying the Montana Driving Manual or taking an online practice test. With a Montana learner’s permit, your son will be allowed to drive while accompanied by a licensed parent or guardian.
Once he’s completed 50 hours of supervised driving and 10 hours of nighttime driving he can apply for a restricted license if he has no traffic citations. He’ll need to pass a road test first. The restricted license will allow your son to drive alone except between the hours of 11pm and 5am and will automatically become a full driver’s license when he turns 18.
