Can you get pulled over if your trunk is open?
I have to use my car to move a mattress, and it's too big to close my trunk. Would I get a ticket for driving with my trunk open?

“Very few of us have cars that would comfortably fit a mattress, so your situation is definitely not unheard of! I’m happy to report that if you need to transport something with an open trunk, you likely are not going to get pulled over.
Keep in mind that it is possible to get a ticket for having an obstructed mirror, so make sure you can see clearly in all of your mirrors.
If you can, you should try to tie down your trunk. Even if it’s still open, it’ll at least reduce the obstruction to your mirrors and prevent the mattress from falling out of your car.
Driving slowly and alerting other cars is also important—in these situations, it’s most important to avoid driving recklessly or
dangerously
.If you need to, drive with your hazard lights on. You can also buy caution flags to place on the back of your vehicle or mirrors to alert other vehicles. If you want to go the extra mile for safety, you can also
install a rearview mirror monitor
, too!Try to avoid taking busy roads or highways as well. While not always possible, sticking to more residential streets can reduce the chance of an accident.”
