Can you get in trouble for being uninsured for a day when you're driving?

I started a new insurance policy, but didn't realize that it started two days after my insurance was canceled. Since I was uninsured for a day, will I get in trouble? Could I face a fine?

“Since you now have insurance and weren’t in any accidents, you won’t face any fines or penalties. However, it’s not something you want to get into the habit of doing.
Even if your
car insurance
lapses for a day, you are still considered uninsured. If you got into an accident, you wouldn’t have any coverage under your old insurance or your new policy, which means you’d be financially responsible for any damages or injuries.
If you were stopped by a police officer, you likely would have gotten a ticket for being uninsured. The DMV could also decide to
suspend your license
until you were insured again.
To avoid a lapse in the future, make sure that a new insurance policy starts the same day that your prior policy cancels. Most insurance will cancel and start at 12:01 AM on the specified date.
