Can a driving instructor use a mobile phone while teaching?
When I was in my driving lesson today, my instructor seemed to be more interested in checking his phone than correcting my driving. Are driving instructors allowed to use their mobile phones?

There’s a reason to be concerned over those actions! The law states that it is illegal for a driving instructor to use their mobile phone while teaching. Although they may not be behind the wheel of a car, your instructor is required to intervene if necessary and being distracted by their phone can be dangerous.
Even if they aren’t playing around with their phone, your driving instructor should be 100% focused on what you’re doing during your lesson. It’s not just about the safety of you and the instructor, but also about making sure you’re making the most from your lesson and you feel as though they’re invested in supporting your learning.
There are, however, exceptions to the rule if your instructor is showing you a maneuver—providing you’re safely parked.
