Are self-driving cars legal in Texas?

I’ve failed my driving test twice now. I’m beginning to think I’m just not meant to be behind the wheel. Maybe I’ll save up for a self-driving car. Are they legal in Texas?

Oh, no! I’m sorry to hear you’ve had a hard time passing your test. Practice makes perfect! Self-driving cars have been legal in
Texas
since 2017; however, as of now, there are no self-driving vehicles on the road.
Here’s more information on that:
  • In 2017, legislation passed allowing for self-driving cars on Texas highways.
  • The bill stipulates that self-driving vehicles must be insured and equipped with video recording equipment.
  • Some vehicle manufacturers predict that driverless vehicles will be available as early as 2024, but there is some skepticism surrounding this claim.
You may have to wait a few years (at least) for a self-driving car, so it might behoove you to give that driving test another go. Check out our

And when you do get your license, make sure you’ve got a
