Oh no! A dead battery can be frustrating. BMW doesn’t offer specific details about how to take your car out of gear with a dead battery, but you can manually put your BMW 328i in neutral by following these steps:
  • Take the key fob and remove the key
  • Open the trunk
  • Locate and open the emergency kit located on the top of the trunk
  • Get the tow bar and gear release tool (orange)
  • Remove the plastic cover from the cupholder
  • Take the orange tool and stick it into the emergency gear release hole
  • Turn it to the right and push down to lock it in place
  • Your car should be in neutral
To confirm whether this works in your BMW, check your owner’s manual for details, or contact your local BMW dealership.
And if you’re not keen on dealing with car problems on the road, consider upgrading your
car insurance
policy to include
roadside assistance
.
