After how many miles should I change the oil in my BMW?
My uncle gifted me his BMW a few months ago. He said it was in good shape, but I might need to change the oil soon. How often should I get an oil change on the BMW?

Getting an oil change on your BMW can improve gas mileage, performance, and the longevity of the vehicle, so staying on top of it is important.
In regard to oil changes, a few factors dictate how many miles you can safely travel between changes. Some of these factors include:
- The quality and type of oil you use
- The age of your vehicle
- The type of vehicle
- Your driving habits
- Your driving frequency
Newer BMWs use synthetic oil, and you should change the oil every 12,000 to 15,000 miles. If your BMW is a bit older and uses conventional oil, you should plan to have the traditional oil replaced every 3,000 to 5,000 miles.
Often, the mechanic will place a small decal on the windshield stating when the last oil change was or at what mileage you should get it done.
