What do I do after an accident if the other driver doesn't have insurance?

I was involved in a collision when another driver made a bad left turn and hit my car. I had to get some medical attention and I took a week off work. My car was totaled. The other driver said he had car insurance, but when I called his carrier I learned his coverage had expired. Now what do I do?

Sorry to hear about your accident. In this situation, you would use your policy’s uninsured motorist coverage. This coverage provides a bodily injury and property damage payout when you’re involved in an accident with a driver who doesn’t have insurance.
If you don’t have uninsured motorist coverage, you may be able to rely on your health insurance to pay medical bills and your collision coverage to pay for damage to your car.
