How long does it take for insurance claims to be processed?
How long does it take to process an insurance claim? Someone hit my car about a week ago while I was buying groceries and they didn't leave a note or anything! I filed a claim with my insurance provider right after the accident and I've been waiting for a response ever since. Is it normal for them to take this long?

“In short, yes. Claims typically take anywhere from a couple of weeks to a few months to settle, so one week is probably not enough time for them to process your claim.
Hit and runs are also tricky because different types of applicable coverage may take more or less time to process your claim.
Here’s how they vary
:- Collision coverage covers vehicle damage regardless of fault, meaning that these claims are usually easier to settle, but you may need to pay a deductible.
- Uninsured motorist property damage helps pay for property damages inflicted by someone without insurance, but the provider must agree that an unknown driver qualifies as an uninsured one for this to take effect
- Personal injury protection would only be relevant if you were in the car at the time of the accident and takes a long time to process since you need to prove damages.
To sum up, the time a claim takes to process is dependent on the type of incident you experienced and the type of coverage you have.
