Do condo fees cover home insurance?

The condo fee for the unit I want to buy is almost $500. Is home insurance included in that cost?

Your monthly condo fee usually covers common services and amenities, not insurance for your unit.
These are things like:
  • landscaping
  • operating expenses for common areas
  • sometimes insurance that goes towards the roof and other structures on the premises
It will not cover insurance for your unit specifically.
You need to purchase your own HO-6 condominium policy. This will provide you with coverage for your dwelling, including:
  • permanent fixtures inside your unit
  • personal property
  • liability should anyone get hurt
