For an additional $4,700 on top of the base MSRP, the 2022 Acura MDX Technology Package adds a navigation system, a 12-speaker premium audio system, and several other upgrades geared toward comfort and convenience.
The 2022 Acura MDX is a three-row premium mid-size crossover available in six different trim levels, which Acura calls “packages.” Starting at $48,000 MSRP, the MDX seats up to seven passengers (two more than the compact RDX) and exudes competent luxury at every turn.
Decent fuel economy ratings, Bluetooth compatibility, and upscale must-haves like a moonroof and leather upholstery make the 2022 MDX a great pick—but which package is best? Jerry
, the trusted car insurance
broker app, is here to go over the details of the most popular package for the 2022 MDX: Technology. While we’re at it, we’ll show you how to reduce your Acura MDX insurance costs
and save money! What’s included in the 2022 Acura MDX Technology Package?
The Technology Package for the 2022 Acura MDX is a step up from the base MDX and includes some additional features that improve comfort, convenience, and safety. Here’s what’s included.
Comfort and convenience
The MDX starts off well-appointed and tech-savvy with simulated leather upholstery, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a panoramic sunroof, and the comprehensive AcuraWatch driver assistance suite. You’ll also get the convenience of keyless access and push-button start.
But for drivers who want just a little extra, there’s the Technology Package, which includes:
Power-folding side mirrors
Sport seats with perforated Milano premium leather trim and contrast stitching
Three-position passenger seat memory functions
GPS-linked climate control
Second-row manual side sunshades
27-color ambient LED interior lighting for first-row footwells and door handles
12-speaker ELS STUDIO® premium audio system
The Technology Package also upgrades your 19-inch alloy wheels to 20-inch wheels in Shark Gray. Beyond that, the Technology is more or less unchanged. You’ll still get the same basic powertrain as the base MDX: a 290-horsepower 3.5-liter aluminum-alloy V6 engine paired with a 12-speed automatic transmission and your choice of front-wheel drive or Acura’s Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD). Opting for SH-AWD drops the MDX’s EPA fuel efficiency rating by a bit, to 21 mpg combined instead of the MDX FWD’s 22 mpg.
Safety and navigation
The 2022 Acura MDX earned a Top Safety Pick+ designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and a perfect five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)—and it’s no wonder. Standard on all MDX models is the AcuraWatch suite of safety tech, which includes:
Collision mitigation braking system
Advanced pedestrian detection
Road departure mitigation
Forward collision protection
Blind-spot information system with rear cross-traffic alert
If you opt for the Technology Package, you’ll supplement that hefty tech lineup with:
Acura navigation system with 3D view
AcuraLink compass, Real-Time Traffic™, and Traffic Rerouting™
Low-speed braking control
Front and rear parking sensors
Rain-sensing windshield wipers
Adding the Technology Package makes difficult driving situations, from navigating unfamiliar areas to parking in tight spaces, a little bit easier.
Pricing
The 2022 Acura MDX Technology Package costs $4,700 on top of the base MDX. The exact starting price depends on whether you select FWD or SH-AWD for your Acura:
2022 Acura MDX Technology FWD: $52,700
2022 Acura MDX Technology SH-AWD: $54,900
Thanks to that added value, you’ll also pay a little more to insure your MDX. Acura MDX Technology insurance costs
tend to be higher on average than base MDX premiums. MORE: Are Acuras expensive to maintain?
What other packages are available for the 2022 Acura MDX?
The Technology Package is one of the most popular packages for the 2022 MDX because it strikes a nice balance between high-end features and practicality. But the upgrades don’t stop there.
If you’re disappointed by the Technology Package’s lack of exterior styling upgrades, there’s the A-Spec® Package, which starts at $58,400 and combines all of the features included in the Technology Package with a sporty facelift, a cool flat-bottomed steering wheel, and a cabin intercom system to help you reach that distant third row when the kids (or your adult passengers) are acting up. The upholstery also gets a sweet Ultrasuede® upgrade, and your premium sound system gains four extra speakers. The A-Spec is also the first MDX trim to get LED fog lights.
The Advance Package, starting at $61,950, is the true luxury option. We’re talking a head-up display, a hands-free power liftgate, adaptive suspension dampers, heated second-row seats, and USB ports in every row. The Advance also adds a surround-view camera system to improve parking and remote start capability.
Then there’s the MDX Type S/Type S Advance, a fully-loaded performance-oriented version of the MDX that starts at $66,700 without the Advance Package and $72,050 with it. The Type S is the only MDX to get an engine upgrade—specifically, to a turbocharged V6 good for 355 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. With that engine, a set of high-end Brembo front brakes, a transmission upgrade, and a sport-tuned adaptive air suspension, the Type S is the MDX on steroids—and sleek leather upholstery and open-pore wood trim add the finishing touches!
Is the Technology Package worth it?
The Technology Package is a good deal for MDX buyers looking for a few extra features to round out their vehicle’s performance. The navigation system is probably the biggest value added by the Technology Package, and audiophiles will appreciate the high-end sound system, but there’s plenty to love with all of the other goodies here.
On the other hand, if you’re looking to cut costs, you can probably live without any of the Technology Package’s added features. Remember, with the base MDX you’re already getting a robust safety tech package, along with luxury basics like heated front seats and wireless smartphone integration.
