There were three basic powertrain options for the 2011 5 Series sedan:

528i: 3.0-liter inline-six (240 horsepower; 230 lb-ft of torque)

535i: twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six (300 horsepower; 300 lb-ft of torque)

550i: twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 (400 horsepower, 450 lb-ft of torque)

Rear-wheel drive (RWD) was standard for each of these three versions. Eight-speed automatic transmission was the only option for the 528i, but the higher-level models were available with manual transmission. All-wheel drive (AWD) was also optional for the 535i and 550i

The least powerful 2011 5 Series is the most fuel-efficient. A 528i gets 22 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway.

The 535i versions get 20/30 mpg (city/hwy) standard or 19/28 mpg with manual transmission. A 535i with AWD and automatic transmission results in an EPA rating of 19/29 mpg.

The 550i gets 15 city/22highway mpg with manual transmission and RWD, 17/25 as a RWD automatic, and 16/24 with automatic transmission and AWD.

Interior and comfort

The 2011 5 Series sedan was an all-new design for the 2011 model year, and they gave the luxury interior a serious update to go with it.

Front bucket seats are comfy, firm, and spacious, and the dash looks classy with its minimalist iDrive interface, center display screen, and fresh instrument cluster. There was an available navigation system that came with a larger infotainment screen, and each model comes with plenty of ways to connect your devices for music and other functions.

Seats get even more comfortable with optional multicontour upgrades, and even rear seating is spacious enough for two taller adults to sit comfortably
