background
For people who are unfamiliar with
donk cars
, the name might sound bizarre or even slightly humorous. The donk car is not a joke, though. Instead, donks are stunning customized vehicles that blend the style of
classic cars
with the Southern hip-hop style.
There has been a stigma about donk cars that they are slow or otherwise impractical.
Motor Trend
highlights how this is incorrect by showing off some of the fastest donks out there.

What makes a vehicle a donk car?

We've established that donks are customized cars, but only certain vehicles are generally accepted as donk cars. To start, a donk car is either a Chevy Impala or Caprice from 1971 to 1976.
Turning an Impala or Caprice into a donk begins with tall wheels, 24 inches or higher. Customized style elements are key to making a donk car, with chrome, modified lighting, and aggressive paint schemes being popular. Improved sound systems are also big in the donk car community.
Because of this over-the-top style, there is a common belief that donks are impractical, built only for looks. However, donk cars also have performance modifications, and donk car drag racing is gaining popularity.
What happens if you have a customized Caprice from 1977? Well, in that case, it's known as a
Box Chevy
instead of a donk. These models involve Caprices from 1977 to 1990, and they have their own fandom outside of the donk community.

Bill Collector earns its name in donk car racing

Few donk cars showcase the signature donk style more than the Bill Collector, built by Shane Speed and his team at Kaotic Speed. It is a 1971 Impala with appropriately huge wheels and a gold paint scheme fitting for a donk car.
However, style isn't the only thing customized in the Bill Collector.
Bill Collector has been fitted with a V8 that produces 2,200 horsepower, a massive boost in performance compared to the base Impala. Its standard seats have been replaced with racing seats, and a roll cage has been installed.
The racing features on the Bill Collector aren't just for aesthetics either. Bill Collector can run the quarter-mile in a drag race in just 9 seconds. With speeds like this, Shane Speed and Bill Collector have won more than $25,000 in race earnings.

Donkmaster has built some of the fastest donks ever

While Bill Collector is impressive in both visuals and performance, there is one undisputed king of donk cars. His name is Sage Thomas, but he is better known by the appropriate nickname of Donkmaster. He is known for his donks that feature over-the-type style and crazy speed.
One donk created by Donkmaster has 30-inch wheels. Despite this, it proves the idea of donk cars being impractical wrong by being arguably the world's fastest donk.
Donkmaster's work is so famous that he has gained recognition even outside of the donk car community. Thomas even had a reality show that showcased his work. Naturally, the show was also called Donkmaster.
