Alfa Romeo
stands to be a brand that produces racing champion cars. The Italian automaker has made records in the past by achieving the World Sportscar Championship and has designed a Formula One racing car, the C38, which participated in the racing championship in 2019.The motorsport
constructor is now a commercial partner with the Sauber Motorsport AG in a deal until 2024. Based on their competition in Formula One races, Alfa Romeo Racing remains the team's name after their agreement with Sauber. . Alfa Romeo qualifies for Formula 1 cars
To compete in Formula One racing, Formula One cars like the Alfa Romeo must have an open-cockpit, single-seat, open-wheel formula racing car with sizable front and back wings and a motor at the back of the driver.
Although design and manufacturing can be outsourced, the laws of the championship require that racing teams build their cars.
Formula One cars are the fastest on a race circuit due to their high cornering speeds, which are made possible by the massive aerodynamic downforce they produce.
A Formula One car's overall cornering envelope, which includes the friction component of the tire, the machine's mass, and the downforce created, results in lateral g exceeding 5 g and peak cornering forces above 7 g.
What's going on with Alfa Romeo and Formula 1?
As Autosport
explains, Alfa Romeo has a brand-new driver lineup for the coming 2022 season, plus Formula 2 graduate Zhou Guanyu, and former Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas. A preseason test in Bahrain on March 10-12 will allow both drivers to drive the new car before its formal launch in Barcelona. Bahrain will host the season-opening race on March 20.
Seven teams have already confirmed their 2019 season launches ahead of time, with Alfa Romeo the latest to do so. Three groups have yet to ensure when their new cars will be unveiled: Red Bull, Williams, and Haas.
With Zhou and Bottas replacing departed duo Raikkonen and Giovinazzi, Ferrari hopes to revitalize its fortunes after finishing ninth in the constructor's championship in 2018.
The addition of Zhou to the Swiss squad will offer additional financial support in Chinese sponsorship, allowing the club to operate close to its budget cap. The team principal Frederic Vasseur told Autosport that he wanted the team to have a "fresh approach."
The team is now known as Alfa Romeo F1 Team for the upcoming season rather than Alfa Romeo Racing. For the foreseeable future, the team's official sponsor, Orlen, will continue to support reserve driver Robert Kubica.
Why Formula 1 is such a good deal for Alfa Romeo
It's an excellent bargain for Alfa Romeo
because it relieves the manufacturer of the responsibility of funding a power unit program or owning a team and the associated costs. As a result, it'll cost a lot less money. In other words, if it's getting better and better, if everyone on the team is motivated, if the results are increasing, if the drivers say the vehicle is improving, and if we're having this talk about it, then it's working.
Although Alfa Romeo already has substantial brand equity, there is still room for growth and the generation of more revenue for the company.
