The 2023 Chevy Colorado gets more off-road cred

Gear Patrol’s
own glowing report on the 2023 Chevy Colorado points out one of GM’s simplest, yet most ingenious changes: three powertrain options, all built off of one engine.
The 2.7-liter Turbo has a base version with 237 horsepower and 259 lb-ft of torque, but there’s also aTurbo Plus version with 310 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque, and a high output version for the ZR2 with an impressive 310 hp and even heftier 430 lb-ft of torque.
The ZR2—the one we all probably want—comes with Chevy’s new eight-speed automatic transmission, which has reportedly been engineered to offer more responsiveness and downshifting capabilities.

The Chevy Colorado has not one but three off-road trim options

The first off-road option for the 2023 Chevy Colorado is the ZR1, a standard off-roading version of the standard truck with 8.9 inches of ground clearance. The Trail Boss, the next step up, adds a two-inch suspension lift.
The ZR2, the top off-road trim, gets a three-inch suspension lift and even has Multimatic DSSV dampers. A Desert Boss package for the ZR2 adds more protection to the undercarriage and even has Beadlock wheels, which prevent tires from slipping off the rim under extreme driving conditions.

The 2023 Chevy Colorado is versatile, too

Depending on the trim option that buyers choose, 2023 Chevy Colorados that are outfitted with the Turbo Plus engine are rated to tow up to 7,700 lbs. The ZR2 Colorado tows 6,000 lbs and the base engine can haul a still respectable 3,500 lbs.
For customers who love driver assistance technology, Chevy has a new trailer app with Hitch Guidance and Hitch View. All that towing capacity means that drivers can not only have fun off-road, but bring their other toys with them, too.
