The popular midsize truck is known for its hard-working capability and on-road refinement.
But with a long-awaited 2023 remodel, what can we expect from

? Perhaps some Super Cruise semi-autonomous tech?

The 2023 Chevy Colorado: New trims and big investments

We can’t wait for General Motors to release the third generation of the Chevy Colorado. And we’ve been waiting a long time. According to
MotorBiscuit
, the Colorado “was created to replace the aging Chevy S-10 pickup truck and since 2015, it has been in its second generation.”
You may be surprised to know that “every Chevrolet Colorado and its GMC Canyon counterpart is made in General Motors' plant in Wentzville, Missouri, approximately 40 miles west of St. Louis,” MotorTrend tells us.
Since 1983, about 3,800 workers have been employed by the Wentzville plant. And in 2019, General Motors pledged to invest a whopping $1 billion into the plant for its upcoming midsize truck production.
It’s likely that the truck will offer various trim levels, styling, and improved capacity. The pickup's current trims include the WT, LT, Z71, and ZR2. However, we may see the Z71 trim disappear in lieu of a more luxury-focused LYZ or High Country package. And since Crew Cabs have been in high demand, we’re likely to see a new one offered here as well.
The new 2023 Chevy Colorado will cost at least $25,200 to top the base model from 2022. We’re hoping for an improved interior and a possible all-electric version as well. “The Colorado is spacious and rides comfortably, but can feel basic even in high-end trims,”
MotorTrend
notes.

Predicted powertrain for 2023

The Colorado’s current powertrain includes either a 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine, a 3.6-liter V6 engine, or a turbodiesel 2.8-liter inline-four. Drivers can choose between four-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive.
Engine options could be reduced to just one, possibly the turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder from the Chevy Silverado 1500. If that’s the case, we’d be looking at about 310 hp and 348 lb-ft of torque. We’d rather see a V6 powertrain for maximum efficiency.
We expect an available four-wheel drive, a highly-desired feature for mid-size pickups. There’s nothing like off-roading in your truck on the weekend, or plowing through the snow in the winter.
Fans of the “best off-road small truck,” the Colorado ZR2, are hoping for an upgraded version of the trim as well. With its skid plates, locking differentials, and Multimatic spool-valve shock absorbers, it’s hard to think of a better option for a fun day on the trails.
“We think it's nearly certain that Chevrolet will make a new Colorado ZR2 to compete with the likes of the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro and Nissan Frontier Pro-4X,” MotorTrend reports. It’s also possible that the ZR2 will be expanded into a sub-brand since the Silverado ZR2 recently got a revamp.
Despite chip shortages affecting production across the auto industry, the 2023 Chevy Colorado is predicted to hit the market in late 2022.
