background
When we’re going about our business during the week, most of us don’t use the majority of the space inside our
cars
. If you’re more of a lone ranger or you’re one for peace and solitude, a one-seater car may be right for you.
No more kids yelling in the backseat or friends asking you for a ride—just you and your clean, quaint little auto hitting the streets in style.
Jerry

Quirky one-seater cars

The unique Carver One looks as much like a bike as it does a car. While the expensive vehicle offers only 68 hp, it's sure to turn heads as you whip around corners in the city.
The Neander Cyclecar is a strange three-wheeler that requires the driver to pull on the wheel to brake. Sounds like a lot of effort to operate. The futuristic-looking one-seater also reminds us of a bike, and would look pretty dope driving around the desert by space cowboy.
The stylish Mazda Miata Mono Posto isn’t meant to be a street-legal race car. According to
HotCars
, “The car was issued in 2000, but never really became a hit, because there were just too many issues ranging from having no roof, windows or even a radio!”
Even though the Mono Posto was a failure for practical reasons—can you imagine getting stuck in a winter storm with one of these—it’s a beautiful little tic tac-sized car that should not be forgotten.
The boxy Mini Hotrod is quite the clunker! With a top speed of 50 mph, it’s legal to zip around in them in Germany. “It was designed for people to get the feel of riding a motorcycle after drinking a few cold ones, but what’s the point of having a fun and cool ride, if your friends can’t come in for a fun, brazen lift home!” HotCars tells us.

Speedsters for the solo thrill seeker

While it’s available as a two-seater as well, it's likely that you’ll prefer a solo ride with the Tramontana R. The minimalist vehicle has heavier wheels than a Formula car, yet it’s lightweight enough to remind us of a Lamborghini
The one-seater car looks like a race car and with a 720 hp engine, it sure feels like one, too. While the Tramontana R may cost you a pretty penny, it will satisfy your need for speed.
A street-legal race car, the well-designed BAC Mono cranks out 285 hp and has a top speed of 170 miles per hour. The practical car has a lightweight body and the steering isn’t removable. At least owners can avoid an annoying swivel seat as they draw attention from the whole neighborhood.
The bobsleigh-looking Vanwall GPR-12 was meant to race. While it’s pretty hard to locate one of these, a replica can be purchased with A Jaguar V12 engine to add to your car collection
Revealed in 2015, the motorbike-inspired Honda Project 2 & 4 can rev up to 14,000,000 rpm. Woah, Nelly! The 405 kg car can offer another seat for a passenger, but does anyone really want to sit on a floating seat? While it’s just a concept vehicle, we hope Honda will start to mass-produce these bad boys for some fun times on the track.
The Lamborghini Egoista has earned the right to be egotistical. The design is said to have been inspired by airplanes and fighter jets. The street-legal car pumps out 600 hp with a smaller cabin than you could ever imagine. But in order to get in, you need to manually remove the steering wheel. We’re tired just thinking about it.

Ok, these are just strange

The Rinspeed Advantige R1 will definitely get you the attention you crave. According to HotCars, “What makes this car fun to drive is its floating cockpit that shifts with every corner the driver takes.” It may take some getting used to, but if you’re up for the challenge, it’s bound to be a fun adventure.
How we love the super cute Peel P50 that reminds us of Guido, the Italian forklift from the
Cars movie
. In 2010, it was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records for being the world’s smallest production car. The three-wheeler was legal to drive, despite lacking a reverse gear.
According to HotCars, “The car was intended for use in the city, and its lightweight design allowed it to be maneuvered easily and physically if required.” As you can imagine, the tiny auto is not very comfortable at all. That’s okay, we’ll just stand here and take a bunch of pictures.
Half a car, the Electra Meccanica Solo actually offers a little bit of storage space for its drivers. With zero emissions, the electric vehicle is great for the environment and for a drive-through on your way home from work. Los Angeles is the first market for the Solo, with a starting price of $18,500. Buyers will also be eligible for the $750 rebate from the California Clean Vehicle Rebate Project.
The Mazda Suitcase Car will increase your status in the office. The car either has a built-in suitcase, or it can easily fit into one. “The car is actually designed for businessmen to get from Point A to Point B, when on their business trips by simply opening the suitcase and driving the car wherever they needed to go,” HotCars reveals.
The awkward car isn’t very safe but seems like a fun toy to play around with your co-workers in the parking lot.
