Will my gap coverage kick in if my auto insurance policy is canceled?

My car was totaled in an accident. The problem is when I filed my claim, I found out that my insurance policy got canceled for non-payment! I had no idea. Will my gap coverage still be in effect since the other insurance company is paying out for my car?

“This is a terrible predicament to be in.
Gap insurance
is just like any other type of coverage, so you will need to read your contract.
There will be a list of exclusions in your contract and these can differ from company to company. If the exclusion states that you must have an active insurance policy, then you will not be covered. I suggest getting in touch with the carrier for your gap coverage directly.
