Why won't my insurance company complete the repairs to my floor and match the existing carpet? My living room was flooded last month when the supply hose for my washing machine busted. My home has an open concept floor plan, but only the living room was damaged. However, the adjuster replaced only the living room carpet and now it doesn't match! The original carpet was six years old and is no longer available. They tried to match the color, but it looks terrible. What can I do?

“Many insurance policies stipulate that they will match like kind and quality when making repairs to a covered claim. This means if they can’t replace it exactly, they will find the next best thing.
In this case, since the same type of carpet is no longer available, they would usually replace all of the carpet if there is an obvious difference between the two.
You may want to take pictures of your home showing how different the carpets look and get in touch with the supervisor in the claims department. They can set up a review process and may have the rest of your first-floor carpet updated.
