Why does my Dodge Ram shut off while driving?
I have a 2008 Ram 1500 that I purchased off the showroom floor. Until recently, it’s never given me any problems. But all of a sudden, the truck shuts off periodically. Why is my Dodge Ram cutting out while driving?

Dodge Ram
is shutting off while driving, you could have one or more issues.Here are some of the most common:
- You don’t have enough gas in the vehicle. Even if you’re not showing an empty tank, accelerating from a stop while you’re on an incline may not allow gas to reach the fuel pump that goes to the engine.
- You have a faulty fuel pump. If your Ram has over 100,000 miles and you’ve never replaced your fuel pump, the pump could be on its last leg. Have a mechanic take a look at it to make sure.
- You have bad ignition coils. These coils are the mechanisms that allow your spark plugs to fire. If they’re bad, your spark plugs will fire irregularly or not at all. Replace them as necessary.
- You have a broken ignition switch. The ignition switch is an anti-theft component that turns your Ram’s electrical systems off and on. If it starts to fail, your electrical systems won’t turn on, which will lead to the car dying or sputtering while driving.
