Why does my 2014 Ford Focus make a ticking noise?

I recently bought a used car for my daughter. When we test-drove it, everything seemed fine, but now there’s a funny ticking noise.

It can be alarming when you buy a car that suddenly starts making a weird noise. A 2014 Ford Focus ticking noise could be due to low oil levels, low oil pressure, an exhaust leak, or an ignition system malfunction. These are some of the most common causes of ticking noises and often have easy fixes.
More often than not, low oil pressure is caused by a low oil level. It might just be time to top off your engine’s oil or have it changed. Although exhaust leaks can have structural sources, sometimes it’s just a faulty gas cap that needs replacing.
That said, if you can’t remedy or diagnose the ticking problem with some simple maintenance, you’ll need to take the car to a professional technician for proper evaluation and repair.
