Perhaps Denny’s imagination is a bit too vivid. The Nissan 370Z
is no longer made—it was discontinued in 2020. However, the new 2023 Nissan Z, like its predecessor the 370Z, is manufactured at the Nissan Motor Tochigi Plant in Kaminokawa, Tochigi, Japan, which is about 1 hour and 45 minutes north of Tokyo.
Not sure what your brother-in-law says about the new Z (“It’s gonna be a truck with no windshield!”), but we here at Jerry suggest you surreptitiously cover your ears whenever he opens his mouth. The new Z is a sporty coupe (very untruck-like) with a peppy, twin-turbo V6 engine with 400 horsepower, sublime handling, and perky acceleration. Overall, it’s a more refined and authoritative ride than the late 370Z.
The Z is firmly at home in the 21st century, as it gets a much-needed technological facelift on the interior, with a new infotainment touchscreen, a customizable digital gauge, and a slew of driver-assist technology including automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. The leather upholstery is pretty sweet, as well.
