Why do I need car insurance to get a driver's license in NC?

to get a driver’s license in NC because the state wants to ensure that you have the legal required amount of coverage to cover other people’s property damage and medical bills if you cause a car accident.
North Carolina’s car insurance laws
require all drivers in the state to carry the following:- Bodily injury liability coverage: $30,000 per person, $60,000 per accident
- Property damage liability coverage: $25,000 per accident
- Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage: $30,000 per person and $60,000 per accident in uninsured motorist bodily injury liability Here are your alternative options toget a North Carolina driver’s licensewithout a standard car insurance policy:
- The DMV will issue a license to you with a fleet restriction: A fleet restriction means you can only drive a rental vehicle—so long as you purchaserental car insurance. You wouldn’t be able to borrow a friend or family member’s car to drive.
- Purchase a non-owners insurance policy:Non owner car insurancefollows the driver—not the car—and provides the state-minimum requirements whenever you rent or borrow.
