Which country has the highest percentage of electric cars?
I’m doing a research project on EVs for school and I am trying to determine which country is leading the electric car race. Which country has the highest percentage of electric cars?

Sounds like a great project! Currently Norway is leading the race when it comes to the highest percentage of electric cars with about 80 electric cars per 1,000 residents.
Despite being smaller in size and population, the country of Norway is leading the charge in the ratio of EV ownership and adoption. In 2021, reports showed that in Norway, 8 out of every 10 cars sold were fully electric.
At this rate, Norway is well on its way to achieving its goal of phasing out combustion vehicles by 2025. The volume of cars is nowhere near the amount sold in China and the US, so why Norway?
Why is the little Scandinavian nation beating out the larger countries you might ask? It’s simple: incentives. The government invested in infrastructure and financial incentives which allowed for tax reductions, bus land access, free public parking, and more.
Additionally, the country runs on 90% hydropower which provides clean energy at a low cost. While this model has worked in Norway, various factors make it a bit more complicated to copy and paste in other countries. Countries will have to find a hybridized way (pun intended) to incorporate EVs on their roads.
