Toyota was founded in Nagoya, Aichi, Japan.
Toyota is indeed a Japanese company. Even today, it’s headquartered not too far from the brand’s 19th-century beginnings as the Toyoda Loom Company in Nagoya.
Founder Sakichi Toyoda started it all by inventing a special handloom that he patented in 1891. He would later go on to found Toyoda Loom Company, which manufactured and sold looms.
His son, Kiichiro Toyoda, started what would become Toyota Motor Company as a subsidiary of the loom company. Today, Toyota Motor Corporation is in Toyota City, Aichi, which is only about 25 miles away from Nagoya.
