Can I get car insurance as a 17-year-old?
I'm 17 and just bought my first car. I know I need insurance to be able to legally drive, but as a minor, I'm not sure I'm able to apply for it. Can I get car insurance at my age?

“Congrats on getting your first car at such a young age! Whether you can get
car insurance
as a 17-year-old depends on where you live. Some states allow 17 year olds to purchase insurance, provided they have written permission from their parents—while in other states, you can’t buy your own insurance until you’re 19.
Keep in mind that the average price of car insurance for a 17-year-old is over $5,500 per year. Few 17-year-olds can afford that type of money, so you may want to ask your parents if they’ll add you to their policy. This is usually cheaper, especially if you
have your own car
.You may also want to look at good student discounts, as these can typically lower your car insurance premiums by 5% to 10%.
