Where was the Chevy Impala made?
My grandad is passing down his old Chevy Impala to me. He’s way into cars and history, so I’d like to surprise him with a photo of myself and the car on a road trip to the plant where it came from. Where was the Chevy Impala made while it was in production?

What a cool way to pay homage to the Impala’s history and thank your gramps in the process! For the most part, the Chevy Impala was made at the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant in Detroit, Michigan. But Chevy produced certain models at other plants throughout the Impala’s history.
In addition to the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant, some Chevrolet Impalas were manufactured in:
- Ontario, Canada
- California
- Maryland
- Louisiana
You can find out exactly where your Chevy Impala was made by checking its
vehicle identification number (VIN)
. Look at the 11th digit to see if your Impala was produced at one of the two main plants for Impala production:- A U means your Impala was produced at Detroit-Hamtramck
- A 1 means your Impala was produced at the GM Oshawa Car Assembly in Ontario, Canada
