, has had a wild ride, one that has unfortunately culminated in discontinuation. A few poor design choices in the Generation VII of 1994 made a striking, bold vehicle into a forgettable four-door, and it seems that it never really recovered. The last Impala left the Chevy plant in
Now that we’ve officially said goodbye to the Chevy Impala, one artist considered what a 2025 version might have looked like.
A brief history of the Chevy Impala
The Chevy Impala concept was introduced to the world in 1956, in a car show put on by General Motors called Motorama.
An elegant and powerful-looking car, it’s no surprise that by the time it hit production in 1958, it was already well on its way to major popularity among American buyers. The Impala of the ‘50s was very much of its time: a spacious cabin, an imposing hood and fender, and a lengthy top-to-toe measurement that would make city parking in 2022 a near impossibility.
As the times they were a-changing, so, too, was the Impala. By the time the ‘80s had rolled around, the Impala had gone from a drive-in dream to a Crown Vic’s cousin, and with the ‘90s came a softening of all the hard edges of the original Impala. We were left with a blobby sedan, and as we entered a new century, it was your grandmother’s Impala that would steal the show—not yours.
Here in 2022, Chevy has officially bid the Impala farewell. A visual artist named Shoeb Kalania recently paid homage to the sedan by rendering a “2025” version, reports
. In the video, we see what appears to be a sketch for a standard Chevy Impala 2014, viewed from the side.
In a fascinating 15 minutes, we see the artist alter the outlines of the car’s frame, making angles sharper and colors more dramatic. The tires become bigger and bolder, and the cab becomes flatter so that it is nearly flush with the hood. Subtle updates transform a ho-hum sedan into a spiffy looking speedster. Though the final product has none of the drama of say, the
Sadly, Kalania’s rendering only exists in cyberspace, and here in the real world we must say farewell to the dwindling Impala population. Luckily, Chevy won’t be leaving us hanging. We can look forward to the new 2023 Corvette Z06, which is definitely not a 2014 Impala. It does, however, look a little bit like a certain artist’s 2025 Impala.
