You’re right! Ferdinand Porsche was actually born in Maffersdorf, Bohemia, Austria-Hungary, in what is now present-day Vratislavice nad Nisou, Czech Republic. Born to a panel-beater and a homemaker, Porsche showed aptitude with electricity and engineering at a very young age.
Throughout the early 20th century, Porsche’s abilities were held in high regard and he earned numerous jobs in automotive companies throughout Europe. In 1931, he created Porsche as an automotive consulting firm and became a naturalized citizen of Germany under the authority of Adolf Hitler in 1934.
Due to WWII, he didn’t actually produce a Porsche vehicle until 1948, when his company unveiled the Porsche 356. The rest—as they say—is history.
