Welcome to the road! You’re not alone—keeping a constant speed is a common struggle for new drivers. There are a couple of ways to maintain speed while driving.
Your first option is to keep a close eye on the speedometer and adjust your foot’s pressure on the gas pedal accordingly. If you hit a hill, for example, you’ll have to increase pressure on the gas while driving uphill in order to keep driving at the same speed.
Your second option (and probably the easier one) is to use cruise control
. Cruise control can help you maintain speed without using the gas pedal at all. First, locate the cruise control buttons on your steering wheel or steering column stalk. Next:
Press the “on” button to turn on cruise control.
Use the gas pedal to find your desired speed.
Press the “set” button to set the speed you want to maintain.
Use the “+” and “-“ buttons to adjust the cruise control speed.
You can turn off cruise control at any time by pressing the “cancel” button or stepping on the brake pedal. If you press on the gas pedal while using cruise control, this will override the set speed without canceling cruise control.
