You’re partly right—Subaru is a Japanese company, but there is an American factory! Since 2004, the Subaru Legacy has been built at Subaru of Indiana in Lafayette, Indiana. This is one of two factories in operation for Subaru.
The Legacy was previously manufactured at the Gunma Plant in Japan, but not for the United States. The Japanese Subaru plant manufactures vehicles for the rest of the world, while the American plant manufactures vehicles specifically for American drivers.
